Pine Ridge Mission Trip!

On August 15th, 20 travelers will depart for the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation of South Dakota on behalf of our church. Our Mission trip this year to the most impoverished county in the U.S. will make a difference in the lives of those in need as well as in the lives of our church family too. We will be painting and cleaning and repairing homes on the reservation under the guidance of a UCC founded organization called Re_Member.

Re_Member can use twin sized blankets to distribute to the Native American residents. The volunteers going to South Dakota from all over the country need work gloves and painting supplies to help accomplish the work mission underway. Please consider donating new twin sized blankets, new work gloves (cotton/
leather, S M L XL, Mens/Womens … whatever!) or painting supplies (roller covers, pan liners, brushes, etc) for our group to take with us to Re_Member in August.

Starting on Sunday, June 22 there will be a donation box in the narthex to collect these items. Please watch for those bedding sales, or pick up an extra pair or two of work gloves, or some roller covers & brushes the next time you’re out shopping. Your generosity will be very much appreciated by the residents and the volunteers. You can make a difference.

About the Alic Family,

I am Mersad Alic, 40, husband, father, and truck driver. I earned a bachelors degree in Agriculture in my native country, formerly Yogoslavia, now known as the Republic of Serbia. I came to this country in 1995, and the rest of my family arrived in 2007.
Sanela Alic, 31, is my wife and the mother of our two children. She is a full-time stay-at-home mom and likes cooking and gardening.
Ajsa Alic is our 6-year-old girl. She’s a first grader and likes to dance, paint, put on makeup and flowers.
Amir Alic is our two-year-old boy who likes to be outside.
I would like more time off to spend with my family to exercise and to read.
Owning a home is a big deal. Habitat for Humanity is one of the best things that has happened to us in this country. It gives us a feeling that we are welcome here, the community cares for us, and we belong here.

Working with Habitat volunteers is such a pleasure. They are the kind of people that help others for no other reason than humanity. I love those kind of people.

We are very excited about all this and grateful so much.

Mersad Alic
